High Spirits

Today's blip is a snap from the somewhat bawdy 18th century comic art collection "High Spirits", by Thomas Rowlandson, at the Queen's Gallery at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

This shot is part of a picture depicting satirically the Duchess of Devonshire, a political supporter of the Whig Charles James Fox (and played by Keira Knightley, if you saw the film) on a seesaw with her counterpart (out of shot) who supported William Pitt the Younger.

I suspect Mr Rowlandson would get a job on a red top if he were around today.
