A statue of Mercury watches unsuspecting city goers who go about their business and never look towards the rooftops.

I looked up the origins of this statue and the others along John Street and was surprised to find that they are very modern additions to the city. In 1996, artist Alexander (Sandy) Stoddart produced Classical figures for the Italian Centre, representing Italia; Mercury; Mercurial; and Mercurius. More info here
