Spot-light
In the glow of the spotlight, Lavinia Ladybird skated furiously round Iceberg Arena in the final of the Ladies 5000m in the Alternate Olympic Games this afternoon.
The event, having started eerily quiet, with tension mounting as the athletes stood on the start line waiting for the gun, now erupted into massive cheers, shouts, whistles, and shrieks from her supporters. Tooting air-horns added to the clamour as Lavinia sped round as top speed, using all six legs to maximum effect. Only the clock to beat now as she was way ahead of her opponents. The world record surely within her grasp she crouched determinedly, slicing the edges of her skates over the hard ice.
As she crossed the finishing line, the crowd, excited before, now erupted and she coolly did a victory skate round the rink regally waving to tumultuous applause. Very well done Lavinia!!
What a thrilling end to a marvellous games but more thrills and spills from the other stadiums round the world, starting with Debbi the organiser of this event!
