In the sweat of thy face....
In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread Gen 3 Verse 19 Anno Dom 1619
Gosh, this is a bit fierce. I've often seen the stone when passing over the Dean Bridge on a bus, but had never stopped to read the inscription. It's on the old house at the top of Bell's Brae and is apparently older than the house itself which dates from the late 17th century. It originated down in the Dean Village which was full of working grain mills at the time - hence the reference to bread, presumably.
