Oxford
This morning I went to Oxford, across the Waimakariri River in North Canterbury, to get some raw milk. I want to try it for my homemade cheese. It's a long way to go for a couple of litres of milk, but I was able to take in the Oxford Farmers Market as I passed through. The market is much older and well established compared to our local one. There is a greater emphasis on gourmet food. Some of the stalls are very professional. I bought some very fresh cobs of sweetcorn, which had been picked at the right time. Yum!
The hills are behind the town. They have been farmed since the early days of Canterbury.
