Cactus Bloom
Mind the bristles and
you can enjoy the colour
of the prickly pear.

The desert is blooming early this year. No doubt, this is due to the abundance of rain last fall. This Beavertail Cactus (Opuntia basilaris) is a native prickly pear cactus of the Sonoran Desert. This one has been planted in my front yard. The upper edges of the blue-grey pads hold many buds this year. It has just opened the first of them this week.
