Wakefield Rhubarb Festival

This is Ruby Rhubarb who is the mascot of Wakefield Rhubarb Festival. Forced Rhubarb is grown indoors in darkness (harvesting is done by candlelight!) in what's known as the 'rhubarb triangle' - the area between Wakefield, Morley and Rothwell. Yorkshire forced rhubarb has it's name protected under European Commission regulations.

So this is growing season and every year we now have a food festival with food demo's by local and national chefs, a fantastic foodie market and local cafés and restaurants get in on the act too.

Apart from rhubarb I came back from the festival today with lamb, braising beef, venison, rhubarb chilli jam, various pates and yorkshire honey.

We're back there tomorrow for a rhubarb afternoon tea at Deli Central!
