Nut-Hack Hide and Seek
It's Saturday so it must be Hillers' hide again.
There were lots of different birds and also a couple of muntjacs to be seen as it was such a gorgeous spring morning. Unfortunately I just missed a red-poll as I arrived, which was a shame as they are not seen so often.
This is a nuthatch, whose old name was "nut-hack". The name came from its habit of using a crevice in a tree to wedge a nut into, and then hacking it open with its strong bill.
Nuthatches like to climb down trees and to feed upside down, whereas woodpeckers can only go upwards. I did take some really nice photos of woodpeckers today, but I've already Blipped those, so wanted to be different.
