Wild flowers in the garden
Another day looking after Freddy, who was to be fair quite a lot better behaved today. Mr U&L was helping at the railway shop again, so I mooched round the front garden to see if there was anything worth photographing and noticed this tiny little speedwell was just coming into flower.
I think this is Bird's eye or Winter Speedwell (Veronica persica), a common little plant first recorded in Britain in 1825, it has weak stems, and fprms dense prostrate groundcover, the tips of the stem growing upright.
The flowers are roughly icm wide when open,( although these were tiny )and are sky-blue with dark stripes and white centres.
I love the fact it is so hairy, seems very fitting for a tiny plant choosing to share it's beautiful flowers in winter.
