Personal Transformation
This week two stories reported in the news have concerned us, both were about racist and aggrevated behaviours that we had hoped we'd left behind in the last century. These stories serve as a great reminder that every day, somewhere in Scotland people face challenges that can be very isolating. They have also helped us ensure that all of our new learning programmes will again deliver anti-racist training as a core element.
Today we have been working with an adult learning group from different faiths, who agree that working together is better than working apart. In fact, we talked a great deal about the teachings of Bhudda, not the spiritual teachings but those that concern wisdom and self-belief.
Buddha means the 'Awakened One' . We found out during our discussions that in his teachings Bhudda shows great compassion which is completely impartial, embracing all living beings without discrimination. He said “All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think we become.” This is very similar to the other old saying - we can because we think we can.
This for us shows the creative power of the mind, and if we are able to consciously use it in that way – avoiding negative thoughts and utilizing empowering ones – we can use it to make real changes and transform lives.
So we want to invite all adult learners to join us in saying no to discrimination and help us promote tolerance and understanding of all cultures. Join us and make Scotland a better place to live, it really is better to work together on this one.
Happy week-end.
