Sled Dogs

Today we went to visit Roger, who has been breeding, training and running sled dogs for about 30 years. He has returned to retire in Minnesota after living in Alaska where he ran Alaska’s Iditarod four times, as well as many other races.
Roger current has 13 Huskies. The dogs were friendly and happy to have visitors. What a racket when we walked into their pen! This is Rita with four of the dogs. Roger spent over an hour with us talking about his adventures, his dogs and showing us the equipment he uses. He doesn't race any more but takes the dogs out four or fives times a week. I was surprised at how small they were. You can see a box behind Rita. Each dog has a house like this. They are larger than they look because they are buried under 4 feet of snow!
Our plan was to stay in Grand Marais one more day, but a winter storm is moving in tomorrow so we decided to come home a day early.
