The Mace

Directly opposite the front desk of yesterday's photograph, is a display case with the UHI Mace - the official symbol of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of the Highlands and Islands. It was a present from the three sponsoring Scottish universities to commemorate the award of the UHI with the university title. It is a wonderful and splendid piece of art - the more so because it is of absolutely not practical value above its symbolism!
