I'm not sure this does justice to the whack on the forehead that Murron received from a rather over enthusiastic player at hockey practice this morning. She had to come off the pitch and go to hospital to be checked out. Thankfully she is fine, a slight concussion and a very sore head. She was subdued for the rest of the day and tolerated my hourly check ups with quiet resignation. I remember a similar scenario just before the children and I were to catch our ferry home from Shetland. Sam managed to scalp Rowan swinging a fishing rod above his head with a lead weight on the end (long story). There was a lot of blood and tears and Rowan asking if her head was still there... A very nice doctor at the hospital 'stuck' Rowan back together whilst telling me that I must check her pupils every hour during the night with a torch and if they were not responding, to request to be winched from the ferry and get her to hospital asap. I think I must have looked horrified when he said that. Somehow I managed to buy a torch and catch the ferry. We survived the night, there was no helicopter rescue drama. It marked the end of a very eventful week and I remember arriving home, handing the children over to Nick and going straight to bed!
