CICADA SKIN..

Found quite a few of these skin cases today, so I guess with all the warm weather we have been having, these guys have come out from underground and shed their skins and the males are making a fine racket trying to attract a female.
As adults they only live for around 3 to 4 weeks. But underground they live for several years.

In New Zealand we have 42 unique species and subspecies of cicada. The biggest is the Chorus Cicada, with a wing span as wide as your palm.

I am loving this hot weather, so hope it will be a sunny weekend as have my mother coming for a visit.
