Went out on another lovely day for our walk but as we left the house a plane passed over somewhere in hearing distance, close enough for Flash to know it wasn't a Ryanair flight but something smaller that tends to cause sound barrier breaking loud bangs. That was the end of the walk for him, no amount of encouragement helped and I didn't want to force him on the lead as we had a few large ditches/streams to negotiate to get on to the walk.
So Luna and I set off, calling him every minute hoping with the plane gone, he might follow, but no. After a while, I gave up but about 1km from home, stopped and looked back down the path as I sensed there was something. Turned on the camera and put it to max zoom and sure enough, there was Flash 600m away just visible. We made a compromise and turned back and though he sat down by the edge of the trees he did come when I used the arm signal that both he and Luna react to when we are out of shouting distance.
Flash is hyper-sensitive but all the more loveable for it. However he would never, ever act as he did today if he was on duty and in the middle of a "job", eg moving the horses from one field to another. At these times he only have eyes and ears for the work in hand.
On the top photo he can just be seen on the lower part of the path next to the trees which on the bottom photo are those tall ones on the right in the background, he being where they end in the centre.
We wandered homewards together and watched Farmer Franz bringing out the first slurry of the year as the ban ended this week. The farmers are not too sure what to do - will the warm weather stay? should they start to do more preparation of the fields? Only time will tell.
