remembering

this is a photo of my grandad and i, taken when i was a baby.

my grandad served in WWII and although he saw a close friend die, he was fortunate to return home to his family. he had more children, then grandchildren and even got to see a great-grandchild before he died.

as i watch the bodies of young soldiers being brought back through wotton bassett every week, i can't help think how lucky we were to know our grandad and how wrong it is that these young men will never get the chance to see their families grow up or even have families at all.

it all just seems so terribly unfair.

but today is a day for remembering those who have sacrificed for our freedom. we will remember.
