Between fen and mountains

Peach orchard

It is too early for the peach blossom. The early blossom I blipped yesterday would probably be a disaster for the peach trees as we have almost certainly not seen the end of the frosts. I spent the morning preparing a lesson for the French class. I also had a conversation with the local bar owner, one of the prospective mayoral candidates. He is an entrepreneurial guy who wants to reverse the commercial decline of the village where, like elsewhere, local businesses and shops are closing. If the village were in the UK it would be swarming with visitors and would be a honeypot location. It does not make enough of its huge potential. Jean Louis is selling his own bar and doing extensive restorations to the bar next door that he has acquired to open a musical bar and restaurant on two floors. He certainly has vision but is not taken seriously by some locals. He wants to cut the size of the local workforce over time. The previous mayor has been efficient in an administrative sort of way but 40 staff employed by the Mairie for a population of 1,400 inhabitants seems excessive. French administration is bureaucratic so maybe a more entrepreneurial approach is needed.
