A rose by another name

Shy Lenten Roses,
Turn their freckled faces down,
Avoiding our gaze.

One of the loveliest flowers at this time of year .... so delicate and beautiful, why do they turn their faces away?

Apparently their petals are not petals but sepals, and the bit in the middle with the pollen is made of specially petals modified to hold nectar and are called nectaries ... I tired very hard to fit that lovely word into the haiku, but it just didn't work somehow ....
