Overlooked male flowers

No gender politics intended here. Male flowers on some native plants are rather understated and certainly overlooked. Yew and Holly, seen here, are both dioecious, meaning there are separate male and female plants. The female plants tend to be noticed because they bear the bright red berries. Male plants tend to be overlooked at this time of the year, when they are flowering. On the left you can see the tiny cones just opening on the male Yew; on the right are some male Holly flowers, not yet quite open enough to expose the 4 yellow stamens. I'm sure you'll all be noticing them now!
