St Mary's Loch

I returned to another old haunt today; St Mary's Loch in the Yarrow Valley in the Borders. An old haunt because for a number of years we were keen members of St Mary's Loch Sailing Club, and three of our children learned to sail dinghies there, all with more success than their father. I think somewhere we still have the engraved crystal glass that Helen and I won at one annual regatta for being the lowest scoring boat to finish every race over the weekend. That was probably the apex of our achievements. She will probably recall with cringing embarrassment our first attempts to enter a regatta race, most of which which passed with other more competent sailors screaming at us to "get out the ****dy road". It was a competitive environment, with little room for beginners. However, we seemed to provide amusement for others, so that's something.

I'm on much more familiar territory with camera and tripod, and this was the first decent opportunity to try a new polarising filter. It was a beautiful, if cold, afternoon and there's another of today's pictures, of the neighbouring Loch of the Lowes, here.
