Haweswater Reservoir
Dry weather with sun today nice and mild just like spring. Took the dogs to Haweswater and walked along the shore path. The reservoir is full and over flowing at the moment.
Haweswater Reservoir was built in the valley of Mardale in Cumbria.
The controversial construction of the Dam started in 1929, giving Manchester Corporation permission to build the reservoir to supply water for Manchester.
There was outcry about the decision, as the valley of Mardale was populated by farming villages of Measand and Mardale Green, the reservoir would mean these villages would be flooded.
Before the valley was flooded in 1935, all farms and dwellings of Mardale Green and Measand were demolished.
In 1969 a pair of Golden Eagles nested in the valley, the pairs changed over the years but between them they raised 16 chicks. The female disappeared in April 2004 leaving the male on its own.
