North Woodside Flint Mill

Joe and I had a wee stroll along the banks of The River Kelvin in the West End of Glasgow today.

I'd never come across this place before but there is an old ruined Flint Mill just below Belmont Street. There is still evidence of a huge kiln and three or four old mill stones.

It was built in 1846 for Kidston, Cochran & Co of the Verreville Glassworks. It was then demolished in the 1960s but the ruins of the kiln, the weir and the lade survive and are preserved as features on the Kelvin Walkway.

Well worth a wee look.
