Aqueduct Arches
Took a walk out to the Avon aqueduct today. It was built after a design by Thomas Telford and is 810 feet long and 86 feet high. It has twelve arches and is the longest and tallest aqueduct in Scotland. Apparently the water is carried in a cast iron trough and is no more than four feet deep. (not going to paddle to find out!)
It was a lovely time of day to be there. The sun was casting nice long shadows from the arches and you can see a wee glimpse of water in the aqueduct far right. If you look closely over to the left there is the Avon Viaduct which trains use every day.
