Braving the floods in Mote Park
Rugby off again for understandable reasons. The referee I was going to watch was reappointed but that game went down this morning, so another free Saturday afternoon but without any internationals to watch.
We went for what is now becoming our customary morning walk. Again into town, this time via the long way around Mote Park. I'd mentioned this bridge last week as we'd come this way on one of our walks and found it flooded but it was too dark to take a good photograph. It is still as flooded today as it was then. However, there were more people around and a short wait resulted in two intrepid dog walkers braving the crossing.
The dog, of course, thoroughly enjoyed the adventure but not so the gentleman. His boots were not high enough and the water the other side of the bridge overtopped his boots. His wife was better prepared and reached the otherside dry shod.
We retraced our steps and made it to town another way. The river was still high and the coffee in pop's not quite as hot, but we enjoyed sharing a piece of flapjack. After a few calls in retail establishments we walked home, covering some 8.5 miles altogether.
We had a power cut just as we were leaving and when I can to turn on the Mac all I got was a white screen. After several unsuccessful attempts at restarting the computer I resorted to searching the net for a solution. I was not hopeful but one contributor suggested I hold down "D" key while rebooting. This, to my surprise, brought up a hardware test screen which when run showed no faults and allowed me to boot up normally. Seems like it might be worthwhile investing in an UPS.
After sorting the computer I then tried making the soured cream biscuits which were in the recipe book when I posted my shortbread blip. They worked out well, if a little large.
