Crushing the Indigo

I am grinding the processed indigo on a metate (the same tool used for grinding corn for tortillas) for tomorrow's dyeing. the añil plant is grown on the coast of Oaxaca where it is hot, and the fermenting process, which takes 6 months, is completed there. Weavers buy the processed indigo by the kilo and grind it into a fine powder for dyeing.
