The Zapotec people who lived in this area (still do) hundreds of years ago could bathe in tubs carved from the mountaintop stone awed by breathtaking views in every direction.
Yagul is the archaeological site in the Tlacolula Valley where we began the Friday hike. There is evidence of occupation in Yagul from the time of Monte Albán I (500 BC), and it flourished as an urban center after the decline of Monte Albán before the arrival of the Spanish conquistadores.
