R and I on their first bike ride of 2014

The sun was out today, and we had a rare afternoon with nothing particular planned.

On suggesting a walk down to the park to feed the ducks, I was met with a counter proposal from the two of them of "Can we please take our bikes?"

The excitement and noise level rose immediately on receipt the "Of course" answer.

They love their bikes, and on a day like this it was a great idea. The ducks still got fed, and the kids enjoyed some outdoor exercise too. Even an hour later, the smiles were still huge when I took this!

Given today's successful ride, the forthcoming summer might involve a fair amount of family cycling activity. I think their Grandpa would have been very proud :)
