Ice house
What started off as a wet, very grey morning turned in to a fine afternoon, so we had a wander round Berwick before tackling the shopping.
These are the gates to Bank Hill Ice House in Berwick. The ice house was built in the early 18th century to store the ice used for keeping salmon and other fish fresh while it was being transported down to London. In a severe winter ice was sourced locally, but it was usually imported from Norway.
