On a small scale of course! I've mentioned before that the pavements round here are designed oddly to say the least. They are ramped at the road edge and the downpipws from the houses roofs are directed onto the pavement. So when it rains, the pavements fill with water. On one memorable occasion there was actually so much water it was up to my ankles and I had to wade home against the current

Last night there was heavy rain and winds just as I headed out to see a cabaret at the drama centre. By the time I'd walked just past this point I'd been buffeted by the wind, my coat and trousers were soaked and quite a bit of water was finding its way down my neck. I decided to return home.

This is one of the more visible drains I had to pass. It takes the water from only a couple of roofs.
