The gatehouse of Maxstoke Priory
After another dreadful storm yesterday, today has started out bright and sunny. We had a power cut overnight which lasted for about an hour and a half. 'That's not too bad', you may say, but when you have to use a CPAP face mask and machine to help you breathe as you suffer from sleep apnoea, believe me the power going off is no fun. You wake up and sit bolt upright as you find you can't get any air! Anyway, I survived. This is the gatehouse to what used to be Maxstoke Priory - it was built in 1343 and dissolved in 1536. Originally there would have been two statues in the niches above the doorway. Today only a few ruins remain. Countryfiles added more details about the Priory to his blip if you want to read more.
