Valentines

I must confess that I look on Valentine's day with a mixture of amusement and disbelief. I've always thought that the occasion is a made up celebration of chocolate and flowers inspired by Hallmark and Cadbury's (other card manufacturers and confectioners are available) and whose sole purpose is to part people from their hard earned cash for stuff that is suddenly twice the price it normally is.

Why do we need to buy lots of things on one particular day in February to express our feelinbgs for our significant other? Maybe I have no romance in my soul or more likely am much too sensible to fall for the the commercialism of the day:-) Mind you being single helps.

My parents are also much too sensible for this nonsense and did nothing special today other than what they have done every day for the last 48 years which is to be there for eachother whatever happens.

Whew...rant over:-) Of course other views are just as valid as mine and I'm sure that purveyors of chocolate, cards and flowers are very greatfull for that.
