Communion of Saints

I sure had a difficult time choosing my BLIP for today and this is one time that I wish we could post multiple photos for the same day. I visited Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles. It was a place I have really wanted to see since the Cathedral was built about 11 years ago. The Cathedral itself is very modern and almost austere. The tapestries that hang in the Cathedral depict the "communion of Saints" and are amazing portraiture that make the saints accessible. The tapestries are of muted colors and depict 135 saints and blesseds. They are 18 feet height and cover 340 square yards. Among the depicted saints are the 12 portraits of the "saints among us" and show images of children, a businessman, etc. who are the unknown saints among us.

The tapestries depict Saints from the 1st centruy to the 20th century. The tapestry backgrounds use a large stone texture pattern which is from stones of the Via Dolorosa in Jersualem.
