Hard as steel
I had a lovely day out in Paris with Fred. After battling across London (engineering works ahoy), we managed to arrive in St Pancras in time to board the Eurostar. It took less time for us to get to Paris than it did to travel to Brownsea Island last Saturday!
We decided not to buy a map, but just to create our own adventure. We walked up to Sacre-Coeur and admired the view from the city, then explored the winding alleyways of Montmartre, finding this face in the wall. After popping into the Montmartre Museum, which was full of interesting artefacts and stories of the region, from saints to the Moulin Rouge. Out of the whole day, this exploration of Montmartre was the most colourful and fun part of the day.
From Montmartre, we walked south and east, stopping to have the most wonderful hot chocolate. The grid system of central Paris was a little soulless to us, but we liked walking through the arcades. Fred demolished a huge cake, but I didn't have any appetite, which was odd, and a little frustrating. By the time we'd walked along the Seine and gazed up in awe at Notre-Dame, my stomach really wasn't happy. Luckily, it was dark and it was time to go home. I stocked up on tasty cheeses and those raspberry-filled chocolate cake biscuits, ready for the moment when I would be hungry again.
A really fun day. Thank you Fred!
