Blencathra. (Again)
I started the day feeling down, I didn't feel I was making good progress and had had a really bad night's sleep.. However logging on and reading the kind wishes of a number of blippers helped greatly.
Nothing particularly planned for the day but we noticed the bird feeders were in need of refilling. On looking at the supplies we realised that before long we would need to do some "topping up". So after lunch clickychick suggested we have a run the few miles up the road to "The Birds Bistro" where we buy our bird food.
The first excitement was when we pulled into the little car park between their two feeding stations. On my side of the car masses of house sparrows (no wonder we never see any just a few miles down the road) on CC's side of the car there was a group of long-tailed tits feeding about 10 feet away. No good to me but she got some nice shots before a car pulled into the car park and people got out. So we bought our food supplies and prepared to set off home.
Lets have a look at the chapel and see if its at all photogenic she said. I didn't know there was a chapel said I. So off we went down this little single track road and found the chapel - sold and not looking at all photogenic. So on we went (no where to turn round) and right on a corner we came across a good view across the fields to Blencathra. We'll stop here. You can't stop here you will block the road. OK I'll pull on to that wide grass verge. Don't get stuck! Its steep enough to roll backwards off.
Out we got and after a few shots I was getting cold so we got back into the car, into reverse and off we didn't go. Whoops. After a try forward we were going nowhere. A little experience and lateral thinking got a couple of handfuls of dried grass under a wheel and off we went. No further dramas on the way home to a nice cup of tea.
