Moving mountains !

That is what it felt like and we've only just begun it! The foto also doesn't show you two additional piles about 30 feet away that also need to be distributed.
The neighbor behind the fence is objecting to the "composting odor" and wants it gone. Originally thought we would spread a thick layer after weedwhacking the weeds down - yet again - which would then deter weeds from sprouting. Ha!
So we accepted another dump load of chips (last pile mostly raked up debris we find out now), which were supposed to be put next to the ones filling a large whole in the middle of the lot. Our own fault, we weren't there. Anyway, we need to go back tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow and . . . tomorrow ( should be about right)!
But, in dismantling the biggest pile, it truly was starting to compost - middle of the pile was hot and greyish with steam bits escaping as we dug. Must confess, it is the first time I've seen a compost pile in action. Now, I think I get it! This one doesn't have any layers or complicated build up, it's just a pile of chipped debris, resting there.
I'm knackered, off to bed!
