Temptation

To the market today. Unlike yesterday, it was a glorious sunny day, but the market was not crowded. This Jack Russell was desperately hoping its owner would buy some ham, but I don't think he complied -- too busy gossiping.

At a nearby stall I bought some wholegrain spelt flour from a man who grows and grinds his own. It was very expensive (5 euros a kilo!) so I won't be buying it often, but I fancied experimenting with it. I made a superb sourdough loaf today, my best yet -- even better than this one. It's almost a year since I first started on sourdough, and it's so satisfying when you master it. I am confident now that I can produce a good loaf every time -- measuring carefully gets you 90% of the way, but experience (and YouTube videos!) is how you know when the dough looks and feels right.
