Remember
Took the class to the war memorial in Sanquhar to measure it as part of a competition we are working on. They wanted to go to the graveyard to see the stones for the guys who died after from wounds. They were totally fascinated and found a number of stones remembering boys buried abroad. This stone is to a local man who returned to Scotland to do his bit and rose quickly up the ranks. We have letters saying what a brave and well liked man he was. Two staff members are married to his great nephews so it really brought it home to the kids.
Whilst wandering round they found a huge obelisk to a teacher. I commented that they must have been paid more, but a sharper one had read it and said the people if Sanquhar and pupils had paid for it. A moments silence and three pipe up we'll do the same when you dee miss White. All you can say is thanks whilst the brighter ones are sniggering away.
