now that they are not allowed to smoke in the office you invariably see huddles of people standing on the pavements outside office blocks having a fag.

When it is as cold and miserable as it was today it reminds me of a conversation I had with the old Sergei a few years ago. It was the middle of winter and he was complaining about how cold it was when he got out of the car to have a cigarette. I suggested that maybe he should therefore stay in the car and not have the fag. He told me in no uncertain terms that that was ridiculous and he would just wear a warmer coat!
