Checking out the floods
This view is of the 'fields' surrounding the village. Since 2007, it is such a regular occurrence to see the fields flooded, that nobody bats an eyelid anymore.
What does puzzle me is why hundreds of beautiful, mature trees are being cut down at the edge of the river and it's tributaries. I understand that rotting branches may need to be removed to prevent them causing a 'dam' if they were to snap off but surely mature trees drink gallons of water every day. A drop in the ocean, I realise, compared to the ongoing floods but why aren't rivers and ditches being dredged to prevent 'normal' flood waters from causing problems.
On a more positive note, the floods do bring in all the seabirds, swans and even little egrets which is wonderful.
