European Goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis britanica)

Went for a walk around Salford Quays today and found myself outside ITV’s ‘Coronation Street’ studios. As I processed memories of Ena Sharples (double-breasted Ulster coat and hairnet) and Minnie Cauldwell in the snug of the Rover’s Return half a dozen goldfinches flew by. This beauty is one of them.
