Bramham Stone Sign

The photo today shows one of the stone signs that mark the entrances to the village. Most were erected at the millennium.

However in 2008, as part of the upgrade of the A1, a new local access road was created and this special stone was erected where the road crosses the site of the Battle of Bramham Moor. The date also coincided with the 600th anniversary of the battle.

The parish church and the house at Bramham Park are featured on the plaque. The reverse of the stone features the crossed swords battle symbol and the date of 1408.

Stone from the local quarry was used. In the past this same local stone was used to build in the village and was also supplied to decorate the vaults and ceilings of York Minster.
