Lymington

Given a relatively clear day, weatherwise and like on Friday when I went to Pewsey, I just had to get out on the first train...

Just in time getting to Lymington, on the south coast, for sunrise, which did not happen. Then, about an hour after the gloomy dawn, the sun bubbled up from behind, creating wonderful cloud patterns, superbly reflected in this, where the Lymington River meets the Solent. Shortly after, the Isle of Wight ferry glided in.

So many images to choose from; I lugged the massive Big Sigma 150-500mm around with me ALL day and the monopod on which to support it. Not just the birdlife on the nature reserves but the views across to the Isle of Wight, it appears so close from the embankments that I walked on that go out into the channel, that you could literally touch the Needles, Yarmouth and Hurst Castle, which is actually attached to the mainland.

So a walk of about 10-12 miles again, with weather from storms, rainbows, sunshine but relatively little wind and reasonable temperatures, though I was definitely dressed up for the trek!

Taking just 3 lenses, with equivalent focal lengths in 35mm terms, from 15mm to 750mm - not bad! The 10-24mm, (DX 15- 36mm) my old FX 24-120mm, giving a DX eqv to 36-180mm and the Big Sigma giving a huge 225-750mm!

Lots of worrying flooding seen from the trains (2 changes) and sandbags in evidence in Lymington around its old harbour. The local news seems more like Armaggedon than its usual corny, cosy coverage of the trivial.

Lens is Nikkor 10-24mm

My last visit to Lymington last August is a backdated Blip with the ferry docked at Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight, taken also with the 150-500mm, cropped and with quite a heat-haze!
