Mother Earth
Another beautiful, sunny day.
We went into Nelson, to have a looksie. We went up the steps to visit the Nelson Cathedral, which sits high above Trafalgar Street, Nelson's main street.
Then we went to 'the centre of New Zealand' at the botanic gardens, where Mario got attacked by sandflies.
Then we went to Founders Park, which is a heritage park, with historic wooden buildings and cottages. Some are original, and have been shifted there, while others are replicas. It was like stepping back in time. There is a doctors surgery (located next to the 'cottage hospital' with all sorts of torture device-looking instruments!), a bakery, and a brewery, bar & cafe, where we had lunch ($49, ouch!).
Afterwards, we went to Tahunanui Beach for a swim (yesterday we went swimming at Rabbit Island beach). They have everything there; a hydroslide & pool, cafe, and even a zoo! We were too cheap broke to visit any of those attractions, but the sea was free.
This is a sculpture of Mother Earth, at least that's what I think it is. Her dress is the colour of the ocean, and has fish, birds, and butterflies on it. And she's holding a Pukeko (purple swamphen) on her lap.
Tomorrow we leave Nelson, and travel to Blenheim and Picton. We may stay overnight in Kaikoura, which should be nice.
