l'alicoque
This morning we got up early and made our way into Nyons for the 30th Alicoque Festival of Nyons. It's a festival to celebrate the year's first new olive oil. There was a dance group, dressed in traditional Provencal garb, there were the Chevaliers de l'Olivier in their finery, and a tasting session.
The Chevaliers de l'Olivier (or knights of the olive tree) served up wine and the new olive oil for everyone to try. Hundreds of people were all vying to get their hands on the little toasts soggy with liquid gold.
We then had lunch in the Alicoque restaurant in Nyons. Despite its slightly drab decor, we were really pleased with our meal. The ravioles were even nicer than the ones I'd tasted in Grenoble a couple of weeks ago...and they were hard to beat.
From the sublime to the ridiculous...after our gastronomical morning, we went to the bingo! My first French bingo! It was a total snooze-fest and we won nout, but it was worth it :)
Pierre's parents left that evening.
