Portmore Loch

I braved the elements today to return to an old haunt - Portmore Loch in Midlothian's Moorfoot Hills. I walked up there a few times with my father when we lived in Penicuik and I have taken my mountain bike up past it into the hills when I was fitter than now. Today, all I managed was to walk along the track to the south end of the loch, much of the time in driving rain, and at one point necessitating crouching ahint an auld stane dyke to avoid the worst of the weather.

But I was rewarded with watching a family of five roe deer who crossed the burn at the head of the loch and headed down the track towards me before spotting me and quickly reversing their tracks. I was also rewarded with a couple of bursts of sun through the rain clouds; enough to grab a picture.

I also added a new blog Ten things that would make your photography better
