St. Catharinakerk Aalsum

This single-nave Romanesque church stands on a partially excavated mound in the village. It is built of large bricks. The church was originally dedicated to Catherine of Alexandria , and was around the end of the 12th century into use. Also dates from this time the ship of the building. Halfway through the 13th century it became choir built. Around 1500 the ship was extended again in the west. [1] . Probably the old vaulting round was in 1822 replaced by a beam. In 1829 , the windows were installed. The west façade in 1843 , after the demolition of the tower, renovated. To replace the old tower, the church was a wooden tower facade. [1]

On the west side is a tower with a wooden cupola which cast a bell from 1499 hangs. It has a diameter of 67 mm. The inside is painted white and has an organ from 1906 . The gate dates from 1843 . The building has the status of a national monument .
