Fencing Tournament

I'd like to say today was full of laughter and jubilation.

And that I'd brought home a boy who could look back on this day with a sense of accomplishment and pride... holding a treasured medal and happy, triumphant memories.

And that Tom hadn't come last out of everyone there.

Alas.

I don't know if Tom suspects why he may find it that bit harder than everyone else seems to or why his reactions seem to be that critical split second slower. I don't want him to have that burden. I don't know what he'd do with it.

Equally I don't want to discourage the brave enthusiasm with which he takes up new challenges. He will find his place.

I just wish it wasn't so bloody hard sometimes.
