Glaucous gull
I ignored the early morning rain and headed up to Birsay, where it was sunny all day. Still very windy but nothing too bad. Nothing too exciting at The Loons reserve- 3 gadwall were among the teal, wigeon and mallard. Along to Marwick and coffee in the Fishermen's Huts, then along past The Choin and up the cliffs of Marwick Head. A small flock of snow buntings were there but very mobile and right at/over the cliff-edge so it was a bit dicey to try and photograph them. Down to Birsay bay where I hoped to find some little gulls (ie Hydrocoloeus minutus, not just wee gulls) which had been reported there but no luck. I did get this glaucous gull though- the first I've seen all winter. A couple more shots here
