I'm still standing (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Apologies for putting this Elton John earworm into your head...but these bulrushes are still standing despite everything else being flattened by the high waters of the flooding river. So much water everywhere, when will it all end?
Last night we had a wonderful dinner and the talk by Sir Sydney Kentridge QC was amazing. He is 91 years old and only retired from the bar last year - in fact he was in court on his 90th birthday! His talk only started at 10.30pm, which is the part of the evening when I am feeling tired and not at my best, yet he, despite his incredible age, was witty and sharp as a tack. He is described as a 'living legend' in the legal world, and he made a joke about being the age that he is, the first word of that title really appeals to him. Apparently he is considered the best barrister not only in England but in the entire Commonwealth, with young barristers in Australia and other distant countries watching videos of him perform in court as he has so much to teach them.
I did not go watch Luke's hockey today as Thomas had a birthday party to go to. The plan was to play football in the host's garden but it was so muddy that they played instead on astro pitches in a park in Guildford - the weather was unbelievable, sunny when we left home and pouring with rain when we got there, and a few minutes later when I took this photo of them the sun came out again but look how just how black that sky is!
