Postman Splat!

I spent the morning digging out the gullies along the lane to keep the flooding to a manageable level as the council seem unable to do it!

However, there are some places where the water has nowhere to go, as is the case with the 50 or so yards in front of this scene.

The post van was well and truly stuck in the mud, with a front wheel in the ditch.
The postman said he'd pulled over to let a car pass! I think the probable explanation was that he'd seen the flood, braked and skidded off the tarmac.

Rather than try to pull him out with my car I went to the neighbour further down the lane who has a 4 x 4 and loves a bit of drama!

Here's Neighbour explaining what he's going to do:

"Have you been pulled before?"
"No"
"I'm going to take you gently from behind. Stay calm and relaxed and it shouldn't hurt."
"OK" Said the posty in a shaky voice.
"When you feel it getting stiff, ease yourself into reverse and I'll pull out!!!"

The posty's face was an absolute picture!

When the posty saw I'd got my camera out he said.
"Don't go putting that on Facebook, I'll get the sack"

He was very appreciative and concluded with:
"You country people are lovely but completely bonkers."

I almost certain it was the same posty who was lost back in January, which just goes to show how long the lane has been flooded.

I wonder if Royal Mail monitors blip?
